Here are two new images with subtle differences
that suggest completely antipodal perspectives.
Time No. 2 and Time No.3
This image had its origin in my
introduction to the
poetry of William Blake nearly forty years ago:
Forest of the Night
The following artwork began as
an experiment with
abstract shapes which, in the manner of drifting
clouds or inkblots, slowly resolved themselves.
City in the Clouds
This artwork was inspired by
frequent hikes through
the New Jersey Palisades. This latest effort makes use
of digital lighting techniques and texture embossing.
Beacon
While those who live in this
northern Manhattan
neighborhood will recognize the scene in its broad outlines,
the artwork was intended to evoke the moody atmosphere of a
moonlit night more than it was meant to adhere to strict details.
Evening Walk
Taken from a photograph of a
park in northern
Manhattan, this image went through several
permutations before arriving at its final state.
Reflections
For a glimpse into some of the processes entailed in the creation of
Reflections and other giclée prints, go to our new Digital Magic page.
In November 2005, staff artist Brian Skinner will exhibit his giclée prints at the Hudson View Gardens Lounge in New York City.
He was asked to prepare an artist's statement to accompany his artwork. "This required me to stand apart from what I was doing.
I had to think about what I strive to convey wordlessly in images, and then frame it in words. It was a good exercise."
ARTISTS STATEMENT Art is the struggle between the elemental forces of light and darkness. The artist does not aspire to settling that ageless conflict, but rather to describing his place within it. I feel my art is truest when all the opposing influences that constitute my personality color that description when I have achieved balance. While the images I depict bear a resemblance to places in the real world, they remain visions of an internal landscape, a twilit place where boundaries are unclear, where the natural and technological are harmonious, and where I do not see myself as separate from nature. One of Brian's paintings in the Dream Blanket Series, No. 12, Vision Quest, caught the attention of Jason Williams, editor of "Holy Moments," an online publication of the Inter Religious Federation for World Peace. Their home page is at http://www.irfwp.org/. Their use of it, in a special horizontal version is shown below.
Another of Brian's artworks, Time No. 3, above, became the poster background for the Dublin theater group Purpose Built Musicals' newest 2005-06 production.
